Indian iron ore mining mess - IAS officer arrested

The Hindu Business Line reported that Senior IAS officer Mr Shivalinga Murthy was arrested in connection with the iron ore mining scam involving G Janardhan Reddy's Bellary based Associated Mining Company.

Mr Murthy, who is accused number three in the Supreme Court referred case, has been remanded to judicial custody until October 3rd by the Special CBI court.

He was arrested and sent to the Parappana Agrahara central prison when he appeared before the CBI judge. He has been accused of fabricating documents to grant AMC the necessary licences to carry out mining activities when he was the Director of Mines and Geology.

Earlier, Mr Murthy had applied for anticipatory bail before the Karnataka High Court which was rejected. However, his bail application will come up for hearing on September 24th.
